Carmen Velasco, artistically known as Karina Carmen Velasco was born in Madrid, Spain and lived in the Americas and United States for many years.
She currently resides in Sevilla and often works in the U.S. Since childhood she felt an innate calling in dance, music, theater and writing. Therefore, her first performance company was called Cuatro Caminos, the four paths.
Her artistic career spans collaborations with recognized artists from Spain, the U.S., E.U., Middle East and other nations in the genres of flamenco, classical music, world music, theater and film. With performances at renowned theaters such as The Kodak Theater Hollywood, Los Angeles Theater Center and Saban Theater of Beverly Hills, to name a few; she is also artistic director, producer, and writer and has been an educator and invited to be a speaker.
Her work has been commissioned by the city of Los Angeles, the Historic Societies of Chula Vista and San Clemente, The Zion Arts Council and been recognized by the consulate and embassy of Spain. She has collaborated with artists and professionals in many genres and been the recipient of awards and grants for her artistic work.
Her creativity is often inspired by the capacity art and culture provide as tools to demonstrate the unified principles of humanity. Raised in several countries and having a multi-ethnic family, she feels a citizen of the World. And believes that art, is a powerful channel for the advancement of multicultural understanding, peace, equality, self-realization and healing, through the arts.
In 2014, she was nominated to become a member of UNESCO’s International Dance Council.
