History of Dos de Mayo
On May 2, 1808 Spain rebelled against the occupation of France. It marks the beginning of the Spanish War of Independence. On this day heroes of the war for independence are commemorated in squares and plazas throughout the city of Madrid. Today, joyous Spaniards fill the streets for parades, music, communal dining, dancing and fireworks, and Sangria, lots of Sangria…!
