Guitar classes are taught by one of the greatest flamenco masters of the day, René Heredia. Maestro Heredia has performed with the greatest flamenco artists of all time including Carlos Montoya, Carmen Amaya, Sabicas, José Greco, Paco de Lucia, and many others. He has been sharing his knowledge, technique and passion for authentic Spanish gypsy flamenco music and dance with his students for over 50 years.
In pure Gypsy fashion, Maestro Heredia begin training with the basic rhythmical structure called, “compás” that is the heart of flamenco music. Students will be drawn into the flamenco world through the history, culture, and structure of the art of Flamenco. Maestro René Heredia is a direct descendant of the Gitano flamenco puro (pure) tradition passed down to him through generations of La Familia Heredia‘s knowledge of the art form, and through the many talented friends of the family who shared their knowledge around the Heredia kitchen table.
As a performer, teacher, choreographer, mentor, and recording artist, René Heredia is credited with bringing flamenco to Colorado and has received numerous awards, including the Governor’s and Mayor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts.

At Colorado Institute of Flamenco, we believe that flamenco should be enjoyed by everyone––even if you have little to no dance experience or minimal experience with guitar, or singing. Our school at CIF-Denver offers classes for adult, youth and family in flamenco dance, guitar, and cante. Both group and private instruction are available.

This class is perfect for those who have never taken a flamenco dance class before with little to no dance experience, or those looking to brush up on basics. Our Level 1 class focuses on flamenco dance techniques, footwork routines,
Participants will also learn the elements of flamenco music, styles, and Spanish culture. Registration for the 2024/2025 school year is required before attending.
Level 2/3
This combined-levels class moves at quicker pace and is designed for intermediate to advance participants. Classes will dig into flamenco dance techniques and palos (dance styles) in more detail and put it all together in full traditional flamenco choreography. You’ll work on upper body dance techniques including the core body techniques, bracesos/floreos (arms and hands), posture, turns, rhythms, and intricate footwork combinations.
Participants must register for the 2024/2025 school year before attending.
Prerequisite:
Level 2 – Students must have completed at least one semester of Level 1 with Colorado Institute of Flamenco or have equivalent introductory experience in flamenco dance.
Level 3 – Equivalent 1-2 semesters of flamenco dance study.
